The Millennium cross-country team has built a west valley running powerhouse. The Millennium Boys placed first in their sectional meet after placing in the top 3 the last few years. The Tigers scored a low 53 points to beat out Sunrise Mountain who scored 71 points, to win by 28 points (low score wins). Their senior captain Alex Rafferty who placed 2nd place overall with a 5k time of 16:06 led the Tigers. The rest of the Tigers placed in the top 20 including Cayden Perez 17:16, Kason Bolin 17:18, Ben Anastasoff 17:24, and Isaiah Vasquez 17:39. “I felt great most of the race today, but I’m just so happy that we had such a good team performance today” said Rafferty as all the Millennium runners finished within a minute of each other and ran in a large group for most of the race. The sectional win means that they get to move on to the Arizona State Cross Country Championships on November 13th 2020 in Gilbert, AZ.
The Millennium Girls also had a great day at the sectional meet as the defending champs placed 2nd overall. The Lady Tigers were led by their freshmen phenom Landen LeBlond who ran her way to 1st place overall with a fast time of 18:35 for her 5k. The next closest runner was a minute behind. Three other Tigers also placed in the top 20 with Britney Perera 20:35, Faith Quine 21:04, and Genna Hegarty 21:20. “My legs really hurt at the end, the only thing I was thinking about was just trying to finish so I could lay down and ice my legs,” said LeBlond as congratulated the rest of her teammates on their successful races. The 2nd place finish also means that the Tigers get to move onto the State meet where they get a shot to end their season on another high note.
